Lately I've been thinking about other game modes and ways to give the Champion more value.
The latest idea is to have arenas in which you can take direct control of your Champion. Your necromancer avatar will watch from the sidelines as you pit your Champion against the Champion of other necromancers.
Enemies in the arena would not be limited to other Champions. Captured animals, Void creatures and necromancers would all appear as opponents to vary the experience.
You will have access to all of your Champion's active and passive skills in this mode so I imagine combat will be epic.
Knock your opponents of their feet with the Flesh Golem's Ground Smash attack, cleave your opponents in two with the Death Knight's Blade Tornado skill, etc.
Here are the basics of how I picture it.
Much of this is assuming we have a complete Inventory System and Flesh Crafting System in place.
Arena
There will arenas scattered about the world. You will first have to find them before you can compete in combat.
Leagues
Each Arena will belong to a league. Leagues will range from Amateur leagues that will not be too difficult to complete and Elite leagues that will require skill and upgrades to complete.
When you complete a League you will be named League Champion of that arena.
The player must start at the lowest league and work their way up the ladder to become the Ultimate Champion of the Arena.
If the player is not the League Champion of the preceding League they will not be permitted to compete.
Bouts
There are series of bouts the player must win before they can be named the League Champion. The more elite the league, the more bouts there will be with more opponents and challenges.
Prizes
Completing bouts will reward the player with inventory items. More impressive inventory items will be awarded based on the player's progress through the league.
Additional Experience Points are awarded for becoming League Champion.
To do well in the arena you will need to invest time into upgrading the skills of your Champion and use Flesh Crafting to assemble your Champion with more powerful body parts.
I expect that becoming the Ultimate Champion of the Arena will be an optional quest, but a few mandatory quests may require you to step into the arena.
Those are my thoughts, but I'm curious to know what you think. What do you expect to see in Arena combat?
