I think it's long overdue we talk about customising your character with equippable items.
First let's talk about character statistics that apply to all characters. These statistics are predefined by class and give characters some core performance values that can be augmented by equipment.
Defensive Statistics
Offensive Statistics
Basic Properties
All equippable items and basic properties will be procedurally generated. That means that basic properties will be randomised to provide plenty of opportunity for upgrades and character progression.
Basic Properties are as follows:
Quality
There are five levels of quality of item that can be found:
Equippable Masks
Necromancy has always been frowned upon. Now that necromancers are being openly hunted by the Order Of Tyrus it's important for necromancers to protect their identity.
Masks are worn for this reason and also augment your defensive statistics.
Equippable Pauldrons
A pauldron is an armour item that is worn on the right shoulder and augments defensive statistics.
Equippable Gauntlets
The gauntlet is an armour item that is worn on the left hand and augments defensive statistics.
Eye of the Dead
Technically not an equippable item, but it deserves it's own heading.
The gauntlet is also key to the story because this is where the Eye of the Dead is found. The Eye of the Dead is a green gem that is set into the reverse side of the hand and is where a necromancer keeps their soul harvest.
It is also the tool through which a necromancers will is imposed upon the dead.
None among the dead can resist the Eye and without it a necromancer risks his minions turning on him to satiate their hunger.
Scythe
Not really an equippable item, but I wanted to mention it here as it can be augmented by Relics as discussed here.
Offensive Statistics, Blood Enhancements and Combat Effects are all applied to the scythe with relics. For example, your scythe could do +5% Shocking, + 2% Attack Speed while Blood Meter is full, + 5 Life Leech
That goes for all the forms of the scythe i.e. Void Sword, Void Scythe and Void Staff.
I hope you now have you a good idea of what to expect in the game. This is mostly implemented already and will continue to be tuned as we go.

Defensive Statistics
- Physical Resistance - Reduces damage taken by melee weapons (swords, axes, etc.)
- Ranged Resistance - Reduces damage taken by ranged weapons (bows, crossbows, etc.)
- Magic Resistance - Reduces damage taken by magic (staff projectiles, magic skills, etc.)
- Fire Resistance - Reduces the likelihood you will catch fire.
- Frost Resistance - Reduces the likelihood you will become frozen.
- Shock Resistance - Reduces the likelihood you will be electrocuted.
- Disease Resistance - Reduces the likelihood you will contract disease.
- Death Resistance - Reduces the likelihood you will suffer weakness.
- Holy Resistance - Reduces the likelihood you will suffer blessing.
Offensive Statistics
- Strength - Increases damage dealt with melee weapons.
- Agility - Increases damage dealt with ranged weapons.
- Intelligence - Increases damage dealt with magic.

Basic Properties are as follows:
- Character Level - In order to be equipped your character must be of the same level or higher.
- Enhancements - One or more statistics can be added to an item to boost your core statistics e.g. Strength +1, Physical Resistance + 5%.
- Quality - this determines how many statistics can be added and strength of the statistics. Also determines how many souls are required to purchase from the Shadow trader.
Quality
There are five levels of quality of item that can be found:
- Common - found often and augments items barely (cheap)
- Uncommon - found sometimes and augments items slightly (affordable)
- Rare - rarely found and augments items moderately (expensive)
- Epic - almost impossible to find and augments items substantially (wallet crippling)
- Legendary - only a few of these exist and are so powerful they are legendary (cannot be purchased)
